It also welcomed the dialogues supported by the European Union and stressed the need to promote women`s participation in peace processes. She stressed the link between development and security and called on Kosovo to strengthen the rule of law and its fight against corruption. The representative of the United States said that a briefing by the European Union Special Representative could have made the meeting even more comprehensive. The agreements signed on September 4 at the White House included a number of economic normalization issues. “They will bring growth, investment and jobs to the citizens of both countries and create a new tone of reconciliation in the pursuit of progress for the Western Balkans,” she said. The full normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina remains a common goal, as it does for the United States and the European Union. The agreements negotiated by the United States complement the discussions led by the European Union. UNMIK`s role in Kosovo and the region as a peacekeeping mission has long since survived its original objective. The Security Council now has a responsibility to redirect limited peacekeeping resources to areas and issues that need them most. She called on the members of the Council to give serious thought to the transition of UNMIK and to take the necessary steps for a responsible withdrawal. There is no improvement in the rights of non-Albanian communities in the province. The protection of Orthodox sites in Kosovo requires special attention.
